Ulcerative Colitis

Dress to impress – protective coating shields active ingredient

What did the client need?

Although colitis ulcerosa has gained more professional attention over the past years, our client still struggled to explain why it is important to have a treatment that delivers its active ingredient all the way to the end of the rectum, where the disease usually starts before progressing into the colon. For this reason, our client wanted to produce an animation film that would first explain the disease progression and then highlight the specific galenics of their product, describing the purpose of each layer of the tablet.

How did we meet this need?

The 2-minute film first explains how ulcerative colitis mostly affects the descending colon and why an active substance needs to reach this distal part in sufficient quantities in order to treat the condition. Using an anatomically correct 3D model, the film highlights where the inflammation usually occurs and how far common therapies reach, making it clear that in most cases the treatment is insufficient. Subsequently, a 3D model shows how our client’s product is formulated: active substance, lipophilic matrix, hydrophilic polymers, gastro-resistant coating. Finally, the film depicts the dissolution of the tablet and the release of the active substance in the colon and rectum.
